When Tabea Debus wrote to me to ask me to write this piece, I was about to get on a plane and I had a bad cold. I made the unwise decision to take a caffeinated cold and flu pill as well as having a large coffee before getting on the flight. By the time I landed the first draft of this piece had been written.
There are now two versions of Caffeine for recorder (and one for solo violin), one for Treble and one for Soprano. Tabea and I joke that one was is a cappuccino and the other an espresso shot.
